Top 5 Chrome Extensions

I’ve been a fan of browser extensions ever since I discovered ad blockers back when I used Firefox as my primary browser. They are great because they allow you to add new features and customize your browsing experience. Below are a few of my favorite browser extensions for Chrome.

Weather

Weather Extension

I created Weather out of frustration from visiting Weather.com and having to click through ads just to see the forecast. Weather uses Forecast.io for its data, the creators of the popular iPhone app DarkSky. From my experience, the weather data is very accurate. Weather has a pro version that supports many additional features such as rain alerts and multiple locations.

SndControl

SndControl

I’ve been using SndControl for a long time to control Pandora. It’s a great tool to quickly start, pause and skip songs. It also supports many other streaming services such as Spotify.

Chrome extension source viewer

Chrome extension source viewer

This extension is great for chrome extension developers who are wanting to see the source code of other extensions. It allows you to see if an extension could be doing anything maliciously. I usually review the source of an extensions before I install them.

Wappalyzer

Wappalyzer

This is another great extension for web developers. It allows you to quickly uncover the technologies used on any website. With one click you can see if a site is using WordPress, jQuery or other tools and frameworks.

The Camelizer

The Camelizer

I use The Camelizer to check pricing before buying anything on Amazon. In one click you can see a chart of the price history. It amazes me how much the prices of some items goes up and down. You can also set up email alerts when the price of an item drops to a set price. This extension is great for checking if an item is really “on sale”.
