PxlShot

PxlShot processes screenshots, screen recordings, and recognized text entirely on your Mac. Computer audio, microphone audio, and camera frames are processed locally only if you enable those recording options. The app does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data. Files stay on your Mac unless you choose to export them or share them through another app or service.

PxlShot does not:

  • Create an account
  • Upload screenshots, recordings, audio, camera frames, or text
  • Contact a server
  • Include analytics, telemetry, ads, or third-party tracking
  • Request network access
  • Monitor the keyboard or other applications

PxlShot Permissions

macOS requires Screen Recording permission before a screenshot or recording app can capture screen content. PxlShot uses that permission only after you choose a capture or recording command.

Microphone recording and the camera bubble are optional and off by default. You can take screenshots and record your screen without either one.

macOS asks for microphone access only if you enable “Record microphone,” and camera access only if you enable “Show camera bubble.” Computer audio is also optional and off by default. You can turn each option on or off independently in PxlShot Settings → Recording.

Camera frames and any audio you choose to include are used only for the recording you request. They are processed on your Mac and are not uploaded to a server.

The app does not request Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Contacts, Photos, or location access.

Global keyboard shortcuts are registered through macOS and are used only to invoke PxlShot actions. PxlShot does not record or store other keystrokes.

PxlShot Local Storage And Deletion

Recent captures, recordings, their local metadata, and text recognized for Recent Captures search are stored in PxlShot’s sandboxed Application Support directory. The default retention period is one day. You can change retention in Settings, delete captures individually, or delete all recent captures at any time. Deleting or expiring a capture also deletes its recognized-text index, and expired recordings are deleted with their local metadata. Files you explicitly save elsewhere are under your control and are never removed by PxlShot history cleanup.

PxlShot recognizes text in recent captures so you can find images by words they contain. Recognition happens entirely on your Mac. When you edit an image, its search index is replaced with text from the edited result so redacted or removed content does not remain searchable.

Images are freshly encoded from their pixels before copying, dragging, sharing, or exporting. PxlShot does not include source GPS, EXIF, TIFF, IPTC, XMP, or other descriptive photo metadata in those images.
