I’ve been on a mission to keep the squirrels away from my bird feeder. They are creative creatures and are neat to watch but they cause a mess and eat all the birdseed. I started buying more expensive birdseed to attract different birds and squirrels love it.
First, I tried the pole with the baffle. The baffle works great if you do not have any trees nearby. Squirrels can jump over 5 feet to get the feeder. Next, I decided to hang the feeder from a tree branch on a rope. This worked for a while but they soon found a way to jump to the bird feeder. Finally, I decided to give the Squirrel Buster Mini a chance to see if it actually worked. I was able to hang it from a tree right in front of our kitchen window. It is a pretty ingenious design. The weight of a squirrel causes the seed ports to be covered but birds are able to eat. It’s mostly made of metal and should last a long time. So far the squirrels have tried to eat from it but eventually give up. Once they figured out that they were not going to be able to get any food, they moved on. I have not seen a squirrel in weeks.
