Growing SEO with Free Tools
One thing I’ve learned running T.LY is that SEO growth doesn’t always come from blog posts or chasing backlinks. Over the past year, I’ve been experimenting with a different approach: building small, free tools that solve real problems for people online.
The growth strategy is simple. Instead of focusing on marketing content, I’ve been building lightweight web tools. Writing content does not come as naturally to me as building things, so this plays to my strengths. Each tool gets its own page built around a specific problem. I also built a framework that lets me ship new tools quickly. That gives me a few benefits:
- It creates more entry points for organic search traffic.
- It provides immediate value to people who may have never heard of T.LY.
- The framework makes it easy to add new tools without a lot of extra work.
Popular tools
- Link Expander: quickly preview the destination behind shortened links. Super handy for security-conscious users.
- UTM URL Builder: add UTM tracking parameters without breaking your links.
- Bulk QR Code Generator: upload a list of URLs and generate QR codes in seconds — great for businesses printing lots of codes at once.
- ShortURL: A free, standalone URL shortener that makes it easy to create short links.
The surprising part? These tools consistently bring in organic traffic, and some of those visitors end up exploring the main product, T.LY URL Shortener. In a way, the tools act as little bridges between search traffic and the core business.
If you’re building an online product, I’d highly recommend looking for small “micro-tools” you can create for your niche. They don’t have to be complex — just useful enough that people search for them, use them, and hopefully stick around to learn more about what else you offer.
