Should you start a blog?

The short answer is YES! Hopefully, the next few paragraphs will motivate you on the importance of having your own blog.

Be careful of saying I’ll create one later.

Today’s greatest labor-saving device is tomorrow.” Woodrow Wilson

Over the past few years of writing for this blog, I’ve come to realize the value it brings and I think it’s something everyone should have.

You may be thinking, I’m not good at writing. First of all neither am I but somehow I have over 70 post and 1.2 million views! I do have a little help from Grammarly.

Another excuse to not start a blog is, I don’t have time.

Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have 24-hour days.” Zig Ziglar.

I recommend setting reasonable goals on how many posts a month you write. Don’t set out to write a post a day. You will quickly burn out.

What if you don’t have anything to share? Some of my most popular posts are things that cover basic topics. I like the article from StackOverflow that has helped over a million people exit Vim. I recommend writing about things that you are interested in. Even if you don’t feel like an expert in a field, someone with less experience will benefit from your information. I often reference my own post when trying to solve an issue.

Finally, a blog gives you an opportunity to make money from ads and affiliate links. Don’t make this the primary focus. Work on the content and quality. My blog is built on WordPress, which is an open source blogging platform that is free to use.

Think of all the times a blog post has helped you. It is great to be able to give back and help others.
