Top Five (4/16/21)

This is the list of the top five things I found interesting this week. This could range from movies, websites, apps, books, YouTube videos, and more. My goal is to do this every week. Be sure to let me know what you find interesting so I can include it in my list.

T.LY URL Shortener

When it comes to a URL shortener, T.LY is a great option. T.LY is a free URL shortener to create short URLs to track, retarget, brand, and share short
links in one simple click. There is also a great extension to go along with the link shortener.

Make Your Bed Speech

US Navy Admiral, William H. McRaven, delivers a speech about the importance of doing the little things like making your bed, embracing the fears of life, and changing the world for generations to come.

Car Battery Jumper

If you have ever been stranded with a dead battery, these are a lifesaver. The newer lithium battery models are compact and stay charge for months. I recommend having one of these in your car at all times. Another benefit is they can charge your phone. Just make sure the model you purchase is large enough for your car. Some trucks or large SUV need more starting amps.

Essential Craftsman

Informational videos related to blacksmithing, general construction, safety & productivity, and various other trades. The videos feature Scott Wadsworth, and cover a wide array of topics, tools, history, opinions, and lessons. The purpose of the channel is to showcase the knowledge that is gained through experience, and encourage respect for the craftsmen, their tools, and history.

Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder

I decided to give the Squirrel Buster Mini a chance to see if it actually worked. I was able to hang it from a tree right in front of our kitchen window. It is a pretty ingenious design. The weight of a squirrel causes the seed ports to be covered but birds are able to eat. It’s mostly made of metal and should last a long time. So far the squirrels have tried to eat from it but eventually give up. Once they figured out that they were not going to be able to get any food, they moved on. I have not seen a squirrel in weeks.

  1. Hi, Tim!
The squirrel-proof feeder is a good idea, and we might try one, but my wife and I think that the best solution to keeping the squirrels from stealing the birds’ food is to just feed the squirrels, too. We love our squirrels just as much as we love our birds. We have named several of them, and some even respond when they’re called. I often feed them peanuts from my fingers (even got a chipmunk to do that once). So, we put out enough peanuts and sunflower seeds on the ground for the squirrels. They tend to leave the bird feeders alone when there’s plenty to each on the ground. Even then, there are a few stubborn guys who still try to rob the feeders, so the Squirrel Buster is a great option to replace our current feeders when they get old. Thanks!

    1. Thanks Dan! We also have a squirrel feeder but this one works great for the more expensive bird seed you don’t want the squirrels to get 🐿
